Who are you running for? — Join in the fight against breast cancer by running a full or half marathon through Marathon for the Cure™
Rally for the Cure — Golf, tennis, dinner events and so much more...
A brand to trust — We are honored that Susan G. Komen for the Cure® ranked number one in a recent Harris Interactive poll as the most valued non-profit brand and the charity people are most likely to donate money to. Additionally, Komen for the Cure ranked second on the 2010 list of the nation’s most trusted charities. Thank you to all who help us daily in the fight to end breast cancer!
The Lowcountry Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure — along with those who generously support us with their talent, time and resources — is working to better the lives of people facing breast cancer in our community. We join more than 100,000 breast cancer survivors and activists around the globe as part of the world's largest and most progressive grassroots network fighting breast cancer.
The Komen Lowcountry Affiliate is an independent, tax-exempt 501(c)(3) organization. We support local education, screening and treatment programs, while also investing in national research initiatives. Seventy-five percent of the money we raise locally is re-invested in local projects and initiatives within our 17-county service area, which includes:
| Allendale | Charleston | Horry |
| Bamberg | Colleton | Jasper |
| Barnwell | Dorchester | Marion |
| Beaufort | Florence | Orangeburg |
| Berkeley | Georgetown | Williamsburg |
| Calhoun | Hampton |
The remaining 25 percent of funds raised locally support the national Susan G. Komen for the Cure Award and Research Grant Programs, which in turn have funded some of the most significant breast cancer medical investigations of the last 25 years.
The Affiliate is led by a group of dedicated activists and survivors from the community. The board of directors meets on a monthly basis and individual committees meet as needed in order to support our year-round calendar of events.
Our committees include:
We strive to empower the community by educating residents about the risk of breast cancer. We also dedicate ourselves to supporting organizations and programs that promote education, outreach, treatment support, or screening projects targeting services not otherwise available to medically underserved women. Since 2001, we have provided more than $3 million in grant funding to our region.
The Susan G. Komen Lowcountry Race for the Cure® is our signature fund-raising events. However, one of our goals is to always provide a year-round presence in the Lowcountry through a variety of creative fund-raising events, policy and legislative events, educational events, and survivor and family events.
