Rob Concannon, president of the South Carolina Stingrays hockey team and owner of Trio Club in downtown Charleston, has been named the 2011 Honorary Race Chairperson for the 18th Annual Susan G. Komen Lowcountry Race for the Cure® taking place on Saturday, October 15 at the Family Circle Cup Stadium on Daniel Island.
"We are thrilled to have Rob join our team,” said Taffy Tamblyn, executive director. “His excitement and dedication to our cause is contagious and we feel so fortunate to have him representing us during this year’s Race.”
Concannon, a former player for the Stingrays and 2004 Hall of Fame inductee, came on board as president for the local hockey team in March 2010 and is thrilled about his election as this year’s Race chairperson. “I am so honored to be a part of this amazing organization and to help support this cause that has touched so many of us,” says Concannon. “My mother is a survivor and I am committed to helping Komen in her honor and in memory of those we have lost. With the help of this wonderful Lowcountry community we have, I truly believe we can make a positive impact by raising awareness and funds that will help end breast cancer forever.
The relationship between Komen and the Stingrays started two years ago and has continued to grow. Each year, the Stingrays host their signature Pink in the Rink event and they have raised approximately $80,000 for Komen’s Lowcountry Affiliate. “The Pink in the Rink events are the most anticipated games of the season and the players and audience take such pride in them,” says Concannon. “I’m excited about the next Pink in the Rink but even more excited to go beyond this event and take our support and partnership with Komen to the next level.”
