On March 7, nearly 350 survivors and their guests enjoyed an afternoon tea at the 16th Annual Survivors Celebration in the Embassy Suites' ballroom. The stage was set for a tea party, adorned with windows and dragonflies, and the music of Kathleen Wilson's harp filled the air. In addition to delicious teas provided by The Republic of Tea, guests were treated to an array of tea sandwiches and pastries. Dreamland Images' photo booth was a huge success, with laughter emanating from it throughout the afternoon.

The formal program was hosted by Victoria Hansen, anchor for WCIV-News Channel 4. Dr. Jennifer Cranny and Dr. Jennifer Beatty provided medical updates on both mammography and genetics. The keynote speaker for the event was Marjory Wentworth, South Carolina's poet laureate. Wentworth shared poetry inspired by some of the survivors she's met through her work with "Expressions of Healing," a program for cancer survivors at Roper Hospital. This year's gift to the survivors at the celebration was her book, Noticing Eden.

The Charlene Daughtrey Award for volunteerism was presented to Bonnie Hancock. Patty Simon (President, Board of Directors) and Taffy Tamblyn (Executive Director) presented Bonnie with the award after describing her journey with breast cancer and the years of service she has given the Lowcountry Affiliate. Celebrant Kenda Sweet offered a moving blessing for survivors and their loved ones, reminding everyone of the joy to be found in times of difficulty. The traditional closing candlelight ceremony was made even more special when the survivors joined our young soloists Caroline Case and Sydney Huss in singing "This Little Light of Mine."
