2007 BMW Ultimate Drive
Developed by BWM in partnership with Susan G. Komen for the Cure, two fleets of specially badged BMWs crisscross the country visiting participating BMW Retail Centers. The drive will continue through October 2007, inviting consumers to get behind the wheel and help contribute to the fight against breast cancer.
A fleet stopped in Charleston March 28, 2007 at Rick Hendrick Imports on Savannah Highway. The day was marked with clear skies, warm weather, and multiple people anxious to drive a BMW and raise money for Komen for the CureŽ. General Manager Bill Gironda and Development Manager Sheila Thomassen were instrumental in coordinating all aspects of a successful event at Rick Hendrick. For every mile driven during the BMW Ultimate Drive event, $1.00 was donated to Susan G. Komen for the Cure, with BMW North America guaranteeing a minimum of 1 million going to our mission of ending breast cancer forever.
A vast amount of people from the community gave their support by donations, volunteering, and driving. South Carolina's First Lady Jenny Sanford was among the many to come and help raise awareness.
A special ceremony was held to honor our local "Hero in the Fight against Breast Cancer", Anthony McAlister, where he graciously dedicated the award to all the survivors. Anthony lost his mother to breast cancer and has been instrumental in his continuous support of Susan G. Komen for the Cure, Lowcountry Affiliate. He has gone above and beyond in his support of our breast cancer survivors and of the Komen Lowcountry Affiliate. We have been blessed with his generosity.
A big thank you goes out to all of the wonderful volunteers and supporters who made this such a successful event.
