2006 Survivor Luncheon

What happens when you put 500 Susan G. Komen breast cancer survivors and supporters in one large ballroom? You feel hope and comfort that this is probably one of the strongest support groups you'll ever experience. October 2006 had another banner year for a successful Survivors' Luncheon. The keynote speaker was Dr. Ann who encouraged everyone to strive toward a healthier lifestyle through proper nutrition and exercise. A special tribute to the survivors included the lighting of the candles and a beautiful solo by Amanda Redding who sang "You'll Never Walk Alone." The crowning moment was the Charlene Daughtrey Award presented to Patricia Simon, the perfect example of strength, perseverance, and dedication to the mission of Susan G. Komen.
The 2007 luncheon has been moved to a new date of May 1st. Add to this a new location, a new format, and one exciting keynote speaker who is nationally known who has recently released a book about her life's experiences. Tickets will go fast and seating will be limited so we encourage everyone to make their reservation immediately upon receipt of the invitation to secure your seat.
According to the number of requests to host events and our own affiliate functions, 2007 will be a very active year for special events. We are fortunate to have been designated as one of the chosen charities for this year's 2007 Bridge Run that will attract 50,000 runners from around the country. This opportunity will allow us additional exposure to build awareness and promote education for the fight against breast cancer. We encourage everyone to either get involved as a volunteer or put your walking/running shoes on and grab a friend and let's make the bridge look like a sea of pink!
Other events to look for is the annual BMW drive, golf tournaments, and the Bowl for the Cure which has turned out to be a wild and wacky way to raise money and awareness toward the fight against breast cancer.
Where there's a will - there's a way and if you come across an idea and a group of people who would like to plan a special event for a special cause - please ask them to consider Komen Lowcountry.
